42 common elements: atomic numbers 1-30 plus Br, Kr, Ag, Sn, I, Pt, Au, Hg, Pb, Rn, U, Pu. Learn the name, the symbol, and whether it is a metal, nonmetal, or metalloid.
Each element has two cards: symbol → name and name → symbol. Get a card right and it comes back after a longer gap (1, 2, 4, then 7 days). Miss it and it comes back in a few cards, and again tomorrow. A review takes about 10 minutes. Up to 12 new cards are added per day.
Step by step: a new or missed card starts easy (pick the real spelling), then you build the name from pieces, then you type it with nothing to help, like the real quiz. Each right answer moves the card up a step. A card only counts as solid after you've typed it.
Spelling doesn't have to be perfect: a near miss counts, and you'll see the right spelling. In symbols the capital matters: Co (cobalt) is not CO.
Drag each element from the table into its oval (or tap the element, then tap the oval). Then check.
This sort is about the staircase border: elements that touch the staircase move one by one, and S, I and Sn are always in.
The light-blue squares are one metal block and the light-yellow squares are one nonmetal block: grab any square and its whole block moves together.
The pattern, now on the whole table: elements left of the staircase are metals (blue), elements on it are metalloids (green), and elements right of it are nonmetals (yellow). The one exception is hydrogen: it sits on the left but is a nonmetal.
Tap any name to hear it and see its graphemes, meaning, and spot on the table.
Each square shows the weaker of its two cards (symbol → name, name → symbol).
